Police News: Couple cited after police enter apartment

Bedford Heights -- A 22-year-old Rockside Road man and an 18-year-old Twinsburg woman were charged with possession of drug paraphernalia Feb. 29 after police found a suspected marijuana pipe in the man's apartment.

The man had gone to the Bedford Heights police station and asked officers to come to his home, saying that he and his girlfriend had been fighting and that he wanted them to order his girlfriend to leave.

When police and the man arrived at the home, the girlfriend was sitting in the living room. Sitting on the coffee table was a pipe that had what looked like marijuana residue on it, police said. The man and woman admitted that the pipe belonged to both of them, the report stated.

Police issued both of them misdemeanor citations and told the woman that she had to leave the apartment, which she did.

Theft from auto

Feb. 26. Stereo stolen: A Northfield Road woman reported that someone smashed the rear window of her vehicle and took the car's stereo while the car was parked at her apartment. Value of the stereo is unknown.

Theft

Feb. 25. Two men charged with stealing scrap metal: The An employee of a North Park Drive business reported that two men were on the back of the business' property loading water main piping into a black truck.

Police arrived and arrested a 50-year-old Bedford Heights man and a 48-year-old Chagrin Falls man and charged them with theft, a first-degree misdemeanor, and trespassing, a fourth-degree misdemeanor. Value of the pipe is unknown.

Auto theft

Feb. 29. Car stolen from parking lot: A Northfield Road man reported that someone stole his unlocked 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass from the parking lot of his apartment.

Value of the vehicle is $1,000.

March 1. Customer did not return rental car: The employee of a Broadway Avenue car rental company reported that a 53-year-old Cleveland man had not returned the 2004 Chevy Conversion van he had rented. He was supposed to return the vehicle Feb. 28.

An arrest warrant was prepared for the man, who was arrested later that day when he showed up at the car rental company with the vehicle.

He was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
