Board of elections conducts recount on close races

November 29, 2007

Cleveland -- With Nov. 6 general election results certified, the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections prepared early this week to begin mandatory recounts on several elections, including one for the Bedford Heights Charter Review Commission.

Results of the recount, scheduled for late Nov. 27, were not available at press time. Voters had been asked to choose nine of 14 charter review commission candidates.

According to Mike West, a spokesperson for the Board of Elections, recounts are mandatory on races where the margin of victory is one half of 1 percent or less. There are four races in Cuyahoga County that require a recount, including the charter review commission race.

West said the Board of Elections had received permission from Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner to reprint paper records of votes if the printouts made on Election Day were unreadable.
