Akron — What's expected to be a lengthy trial has begun for the FBI's top target in a wide-ranging corruption investigation in Cuyahoga County.
Jury selection started around 9 a.m. Jan. 4 in the case of former Cuyahoga (County commissioner Jimmy Dimora, once head of Cleveland's mighty Democratic Party machine and a former mayor of Bedford Heights.
Dimora has pleaded not guilty to racketeering and taking bribes including a $1,000 massage in Las Vegas.
The case is being heard in federal court in Akron. The judge has banned live blogging and tweeting from a courthouse media room offering a closed-circuit TV trial feed.
The Plain Dealer had planned tweeting but instead will post stories on its website.
Testimony begins Jan. 9 in a trial could last three months.
