The Kent Irish Festival/Bras Across the Crooked River event sponsored by the Celtic Club will take place at Home Savings Bank Plaza in downtown Kent from noon to 9 p.m. Sept. 11 and will benefit the American Cancer Society.

Marisa Manocchio, the honorary chairperson of the Kent Irish Festival/Bras Across the Crooked River, is a 19-year-old Kent State University student who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in January.

There will be 12 bands/performers: Angelicus, The Banshees, Celtic Clan, Kevin and Karen Eblen, Emerald Frequency, Michael Hostler, MacConmara Irish Dancers, Pat McGuire and Tim Wallace, Quinn Sands, Lisa Spicer, Ashley Brooke Toussant, and Pat and Mary White.

In conjunction with this event, the Celtic Club is starting a bra donation drive. Brand new, unused bras may be donated at a variety of locations throughout the area.

On the day of the event, anyone making a donation to the American Cancer Society will receive a donated bra, an American Cancer Society memory card and a pink clothespin they can attach to a rope strung across the bridge that spans the Cuyahoga River in downtown Kent, creating "Bras Across the Crooked River."

After the event, all the bras will be given to Breast Oasis, an organization started by an Akron plastic surgeon that benefits victims of natural disasters and battered women's shelters.

The bra donation drive will go on all summer, right up to the event.

Donation drop-off sites in Kent include The Arctic Squirrel, Kent Area Chamber of Commerce, Kent Mayor's Office, McKay Bricker Framing, Ray's Place, the Pufferbelly Restaurant, the Kent State Student Recreation and Wellness Center, Mike's Place, Zephyr Pub and the Water Street Tavern.

Ravenna locations are Guido's Pizza and Catering and the Ravenna Athletic Center. In Akron, drop-off sites are Mr. Zub's Deli, B.G. Bree's, Revival, the Beauty Lounge, MacConmara Academy of Irish Dance Volunteer Parents, Suburbanite Newspaper, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Mains Post.

In Canton, bras may be dropped off at Arcadia Grille, Arts in Stark, and Cyrus Custom Framing and Art Gallery.

Other drop-off sites include Jake's Restaurant in Mantua and the Hartville News in Hartville.
