Columbus — Gov. Ted Strickland today named Judge Eric Brown to fill the seat left vacant by the recent death of Ohio Chief Justice Tom Moyer.
Brown, a Franklin County probate judge, is the Democratic candidate for chief justice. He will head the court until the chief justice's six-year term is flled by voters in November.
Moyer, a Republican, died unexpectedly April 2 at age 70. He led the court for more than two decades and had been slated to retire due to age limits.
Brown will be the lone Democrat on the seven-member high court.
