MAPLE HEIGHTS (AP) — The coroner in Cleveland says a letter carrier who was shot while delivering mail on his Maple Heights route has died.
Cuyahoga County Coroner's office spokesman Powell Caesar says 53-year-old Daniel Kondas died just before 11 p.m. on Thursday. An autopsy is to be conducted by Saturday.
Police in Maple Heights say Kondas was shot in the head while on the job Thursday morning.
Police say a search led officers to a nearby home where a man was taken into custody. So far, no charges have been filed.
Authorities have not said anything about a possible motive for the shooting.
Postal Service spokesman Victor Dubina says Kondas had been working in Maple Heights since 2000.
Residents say the letter carrier was popular in the neighborhood.
