County Sheriff's office investigating burglary

Northfield Center -- The Summit County Sheriff's Office said it is investigating the Aug. 13 burglary of a Spring Creek Road home, during which about $4,000 in jewelry and cash were taken.

The home's owner reported that someone apparently entered the home through an unlocked rear window while he was out in the late morning and early afternoon. According to a police report, there was no sign of forced entry.

The homeowner reported that four rings, totaling about $3,500 in value, and about $500 in cash was taken.

Assault

Aug. 16. Woman says boyfriend struck her: Police charged a 48-year-old Sagamore Hills man with first-degree misdemeanor assault after his girlfriend reported he struck her in the face and grabbed her arms.

According to a police report, the woman had bruises on her arms.

The township fire department treated her at the home, but did not take her to a medical facility.

A sheriff's deputy took the man to Summit County Jail pending a Stow Municipal Court appearance.

Property damage

Aug. 13. Car damaged in parking lot: A woman reported someone damaged her car's side door and antenna while it was in a Route 82 store's parking lot in the early afternoon.

Theft

Aug. 13. Digital device stolen from car: A woman reported someone took a $5 digital storage device from her car was it was in the parking lot of an Olde Eight Road business in the late morning.

Arrest warrants

Aug. 11. Man wanted on felony charge: Cleveland police reported they had in custody a 27-year-old Cleveland man, wanted by Stow Municipal Court for failing to appear in court on a fifth-degree felony complicity to commit theft charge village police filed in November 2008.

According to municipal court records, the man did not enter a plea to the charge Aug. 12 and was released from Summit County Jail on a $250 bond.

Aug. 8. Man turned over by sheriff's office: The Portage County Sheriff's Office reported it had in custody a Mantua man, 31, wanted by Stow Municipal Court for failing to pay a fine on an operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol charge filed by village police in June 2006.

The man was released on a personal bond.

Property damage

Aug. 9. Someone breaks home's window: A Beech Avenue woman reported someone broke a rear bedroom window in her home. The woman said he discovered the damage when she heard a crashing sound at about 9:45 p.m.

Theft

Aug. 6. Car stolen: A Cleveland man reported someone took his car, 1973 Porsche Togoa of unspecified value, from a Lowrie Boulevard home where it was stored.

The man said he last saw the car last March and discovered it was missing Aug. 3 when his went to check on it.

The man said the Ohio Highway Patrol told him that someone had apparently falsely registered the car and it was currently for sale at a Cleveland used car lot.

The man said the highway patrol requested he file a report with village police as a part of their investigation.

Driving under suspension

Aug. 4. Man stopped on Route 8: Police charged a Sagamore Hills man, 32, with driving under suspension, a first-degree misdemeanor, after they stopped him at about 8:40 p.m.

The man was given an Aug. 11 Northfield Village Mayor's Court date and released on a $50 bond.

Traffic accident

Aug. 3. No injuries in crash: Police cited a 28-year-old Brecksville man with failing to yield to oncoming traffic after his car was struck by a village man's car on Route 8 at about 3 p.m.

The Brecksville man said he was turning out of a business' parking lot when the accident occurred. Police said the village man's car sustained minor damage to its hood and front fender while the Brecksville man's car sustained moderate damage to its fender and suspension.
