Add another new name to Kent State’s 2010-11 men’s basketball recruiting class.
Actually, Robert “Scooter” Johnson is more of an old name.
On Thursday, sources close to Johnson confirmed his enrollment at Kent State as a full-time student for the fall semester.
The 6-foot-6 Bedford High School grad signed with the Golden Flashes in the fall but was a non-qualifier.
After then signing to play junior-college basketball at Indian Hills in Ottumwa, Iowa, Johnson decided to try another route to Division I basketball in Kent. He applied for admission to Kent State with the plan of working to become eligible after a year in school.
Johnson would have to pass 24 credit hours and have a 2.0 grade-point average to be eligible.
A Kent State admission’s committee officially accepted his application for admission on Tuesday.
Johnson will pay his own tuition for the 2009-10 academic year. If eligible for next season, he would be the fourth member of an expected six-man 2010-11 recruiting class, joining recent verbal commitments Kenny Knight (Cincinnati Aiken), Mark Henniger (Massillon Jackson) and Eric Gaines
(Hillcrest, Englewood, Ill.).
