Macedonia -- A Parma Heights man, 20, did not enter a plea in Stow Municipal Court to fourth-degree felony theft Aug. 6 after his employers accused him of taking about $10,000 from a Highland Road service station. According to a police report, the service station's manager and one of the firm's district representatives reported the man admitted to them that while working as a clerk in the station's store over the previous year, he repeatedly took cash from customers purchasing gasoline, pocketed the money, then reset the pump to erase the transaction. The man was released from Macedonia City Jail on a personal bond Aug. 6 and is scheduled for an Aug. 14 pretrial hearing in Stow Municipal Court. Property damage Aug. 2. Rocks thrown at home: A Preserve Lane woman reported someone threw several rocks at her home in the middle of the night, which caused more than $1,000 in damage. The woman said she woke up at about 3:50 a.m. when a rock about 4 inches in diameter crashed through a front window next to her front door. The woman said a second rock broke another front window and a third hit her front door. Police said they are investigating. July 31. Water jug damages mailbox: A Valley View Road man reported someone threw a full jug of water at his mailbox, which sustained unspecified damage, in the afternoon. Found items Aug. 2. Woman finds gift cards: A Firestone Lane woman reported finding 12 gift cards of unspecified value, which were issued by several different companies, scattered around her front yard and in the street in front of her home in the afternoon. The woman said she called the companies and was told the cards were all issued in 2007. Police said they are holding the cards until the owner can be identified. Theft July 31. Tools taken from trailer: A man reported someone cut a padlock off a trailer attached to the back of his vehicle and took $550 in tools while the vehicle and trailer were in the parking lot of a Highland Road hotel during the night. Police said they are investigating. Suspicious money orders July 23. Woman receives more than $5,000 in money orders: A city woman reported receiving six money orders in the mail, valued at $850 each, along with a note instructing her to send an e-mail to an address and wait for further instructions. Police said the money orders were sent from someone outside the United States. The woman said she was concerned because she had been a victim of identity theft in the past. Police said they are investigating. -- Northfield Center -- Assault Aug. 9. Woman arrested: Police charged a Stark County woman, 27, with first-degree misdemeanor assault after a 35-year-old man and 29-year-old township woman reported the woman struck them while she was at the township woman's home. According to a police report, the man was uninjured while the township woman suffered unspecified injuries, but declined medical treatment. The Stark County woman was taken to Summit County Jail. Theft Aug. 8. Woman accused of stealing from store: Police charged a 20-year-old Strongsville woman with first-degree misdemeanor theft after an employee of a Route 82 store reported she tried to leave the store without paying for $45 in merchandise, including DVDs and food. The woman was given a summons into Stow Municipal Court and released. Aug. 5. Man reports theft from car: A Twinsburg Road man reported someone took a global position system device from his unlocked car while it was in his driveway during the night. Aug. 5. Man allegedly steals wine: Police charged a Cleveland man, 38, with first-degree misdemeanor theft after an employee of a Route 82 store reported he tried to leave the store without paying for a $6 bottle of wine. The man was given a summons into Stow Municipal Court and released. Drug paraphernalia possession Aug. 8. Man caught with pipe: Police charged a 23-year-old Macedonia man with fourth-degree misdemeanor drug paraphernalia possession after they allegedly caught him with a drug pipe at a Kitner Boulevard home. According to a police report, a Summit County Sheriff's deputy went to the home at a little after midnight to investigate an anonymous report of drug use outside the home. When the deputy arrived, he said he saw a group of people in an open garage. Though he did not see any drug use, the deputy said that when he announced his presence, he saw the man try to hide the pipe. The deputy gave the man a summons into Stow Municipal Court, confiscated the pipe, and released him at the scene.
