Cleveland Metroparks Institute of the Great Outdoors (IGO) is offering a wide selection of spring and summer outdoor adventures for the outdoor recreation enthusiast.
Adults interested in using new outdoor skills or putting current skills to use while appreciating nature and breathtaking scenery will enjoy the following trips presented by IGO.
Canoe/Camp - The Massasauga
Located in Ontario, Canada, Massasauga Provincial Park offers the canoe-camper a journey along tranquil waters. River otters, moose and yellow-billed cuckoos are just a few of the inhabitants often seen during these expeditions. Enjoy fishing for bass, crappie and northern pike, hike through bogs and marshes, and explore the beauty and wildlife of Silver Lake and Clear Lake. Participants must provide their own meals, Canadian fishing license and transportation to Massasauga. Passports required.
Prerequisite: Canoe I & Canoe II, or equivalent skills
Activity Level: Moderate
Pre-trip date/location: June 18 · 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. at Garfield Park Nature Center and July 7 · 7 - 9 p.m. · Hinckley Reservation
Trip Dates: July 15 - 19, 2009
Cost: $295 (includes canoes and paddling equipment, some camping equipment, permits, and educational materials.)
Backpacking Algonquin
Squirrel away some vacation time now for backpacking Algonquin Provincial Park in Ontario, Canada. The insects will be gone, the moose will be restless and the trees will be changing into their red and gold splendor. This trip is designed for the intermediate backpacker and each day will consist of 5 to 7 miles of backpacking each day. Participants must have previous backpacking experience before this trip. Passports required.
