Recreation News: Spring programs ready to begin at rec center

The Macedonia Family Recreation Center will be starting registration for spring and a few summer programs starting April 20 for members, April 24 for Macedonia residents and April 25 for the general public. All programs are published in our Spring/Summer Program Activity Guide available at the recreation center or online at www.macrec.com


Upcoming programs listed


* Dodgeball at Northfield Elementary takes place on Mondays, May 4 to June 8. Third- through fifth-graders play from 6 to 7 p.m. Sixth- through eighth-graders play from 7 to 8 p.m.


Register at the Macedonia Family Recreation Center; each participant receives a tee-shirt. The fee is $30 for non-residents and $25 for residents.


* Family Fishing Day is May 31 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Enjoy an exciting fun-filled day of fishing for children and their families. Children ages 12 and under are invited to come out with their fishing poles, tackle boxes and bait. In addition to free fishing, food and beverages will be sold. Prize drawings and contests will excite the crowd.


* Kids in Motion is Fridays, May 1 to May 29 from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Let's get moving with parachutes, active games, music, and rhythm. This class is all about shaking those sillies out by tossing, catching, balancing, twirling and just plain moving your bodies. Open to children ages 3 to 5. The deadline to register is April 29.


New fitness classes offered


Turbo Kick takes place Mondays and Wednesdays from April 27 to June 10 from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Turbo Kick is an addictive workout that combines shadow boxing, kickboxing, sports drills, dancing, yoga, and simple dance moves in a party atmosphere.


* Turbo Fitness is Mondays and Wednesdays from April 27 to June 10 from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Each class consists of calorie-burning cardio, body toning and motivating dance music. This workout is sure to give you that lean sculpted body that you have always wanted. See results in no time.


* T'ai Chi for Arthritis takes place Mondays from April 27 to June 8 from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Created and backed by the Arthritis Foundation, this program simplifies some of the more demanding movements of traditional Tai Chi. This program focuses on improving range of motion, flexibility and balance. Try a new way of exercise -- all that is needed are 45 minutes of your time and an open mind.


Position open


The recreation center is hiring recreation leaders to work Mondays and Tuesdays, from April 20 to May 19 from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m.


Duties will be to introduce and teach soccer skills to children ages 3 to 4; involve parents when needed for drills; plan drills ahead of time; answer parent questions; take attendance and more. Individuals will be in charge of 6 to 10 children. The deadline for application is April 17 at the Macedonia Recreation Center. Download an application online at www.macrec.com
