St. Peter Chanel High School has named its 2009 valedictorian and salutatorian.
Brendan Brzoska of Aurora is the valedictorian. Brzoska, son of Robert and Maureen, earned Superior Honors in each of his seven semesters while earning a 4.31 grade point average.
Brzoska came to Chanel from St. Rita School in Solon and participated in baseball, golf, Student Government, Student Council, Students for Peace and Justice, National Honor Society, Yearbook, Science Olympiad and Presidents Leadership Council. He was a eucharistic minister, was an alter server for school Masses and had an article published in ESPN RISE Magazine in 2008.
Outside of school, Brzoska likes to caddy at Signature of Solon Country Club, has helped at the Chanel Christmas party for children with cerebral palsy, and has volunteered at Light of Hearts Villa in Bedford, along with volunteering at Chanel events such as the Father Gilbride Alumni Golf Classic and Benefit Auction.
Brzoska plans to major in architectural engineering and has narrowed his choices of colleges to University of Miami (Fla.), Penn State or the Illinois Institute of Technology.
Alyson Sarosy of Walton Hills, a graduate of St. Barnabas School in Northfield, was named the salutatorian. Sarosy, daughter of Ron (Chanel Class of 1978) and Karen, earned a 4.29 grade point average.
While at Chanel, Sarosy participated in National Honor Society (treasurer), Student Ambassadors, Peer Ministry and yearbook. She was a eucharistic minister, the volleyball captain, the softball captain and basketball captain and North Coast League Most Valuable Player.
Sarosy also participated in Junior Olympic Volleyball, was a summer day camp counselor, volunteered at the cerebral palsy christmas party and the Feed the Hungry programs at Chanel and enjoys art.
Sarosy is planning on majoring in either business or marketing at The Ohio State University.
