by Steve Wiandt Reporter Akron -- Two men were sentenced to life in prison in the shooting death of a Cuyahoga Falls man. Marc Kirksey, 26, of Akron, and Travis Elder, 19, of Akron, were issued the punishment by Summit County Common Pleas Court Judge Lynne Callahan March 31. Kirksey and Elder will not be eligible for parole for 43 years, according to the Summit County prosecutors. Attorneys for both men said their clients are planning to appeal the verdict. On March 27, a jury found Kirksey and Elder guilty of aggravated murder, murder, aggravated robbery and having weapons while under disability in the Sept. 18, 2008, shooting death of Joshua Robinson, 23, of Cuyahoga Falls. They were also found guilty of a firearms specification in connection with the aggravated murder, murder and aggravated robbery charges. Callahan said both men showed "a total disregard for human life, a total disrespect for human life ... it's hard for me to feel sympathy." Brad Gessner, the county's chief assistant prosecutor, criminal division, said the sentences were "fair." Lawrence Whitney, Kirksey's attorney, told the judge his client was innocent. "Marc told me yesterday what he told me in September, that he did not have anything to do with this," said Whitney. E-mail: swiandt@recordpub.com Phone: 330-688-0088 ext. 3141 Comments
