High School Nights come and go each year. Every school looks to draw local seventh and eighth graders to their high school auditorium to win their affection. But Saint Martin de Porres High School has decided to do things a bit differently.

Instead of working individually, Saint Martin has teamed up with Cleveland area public, charter and private schools to promote the High School Admissions and Summer Program and Information Night. This important collaborative effort is designed to help as many families as possible find the right school that works best for their student, where they can be their most successful.

The High School Night will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2009 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm in the Saint Martin de Porres High School auditorium located at 6111 Lausche Avenue in downtown Cleveland at St Clair Avenue just east of East 61st Street. The evening is free and open to any greater Cleveland 7th or 8th grade student and their families.

According to Mary Ann Vogel, principal of Saint Martin de Porres, and one of the originators of the program, "This night is about the cooperation of all of these different schools working toward the same educational ideals. We want to continue to keep Cleveland alive and well. The night is about celebrating each other's strengths."

The participating high schools hope to showcase the variety of educational options that await the junior high students in Cleveland. Students can learn about schools with a work-study program, single gender private schools, co-ed private schools, high schools focusing on science or architecture, and a school with an early college curriculum.

Saint Martin is excited to collaborate on this effort with other Cleveland Catholic high schools charter schools such as Horizon Science Academy and innovative schools such as Design Lab Early College and MC2 Stem High School. "We want to create a space where parents and students can come to look at the strong academic options for high school. This night can help them make an informed decision. We can all work together to educate the students of Cleveland and create a much stronger city in the future." Vogel said.
