by Andrew Schunk Twinsburg Bulletin Editor A Sagamore Hills man was arrested March 1 after a 13-mile chase involving units from five departments that began near the Oakwood Police Department, passed through Twinsburg and ended in Mantua, according to police. Adam Milewski, 24, was charged by Oakwood Police with fleeing and eluding, criminal damaging and reckless operation, after a chase that started when village police attempted to stop him at Broadway Avenue and Macedonia Road around 8 p.m. for driving without headlights on. The chase ended in Mantua off Route 82 eastbound after Milewski's minivan became undriveable due to flat tires, according to Twinsburg Lt. Robert Gonsiewski. Neither Milewski nor an attorney could be reached for comment by press time. According to reports, Milewski has been released from jail on a personal recognizance bond. Gonswieski said officers from Twinsburg and Aurora involved in the arrest twice used their stun devices to subdue Milewski because he refused to comply with officers' orders during the arrest, and that his "big puffy coat" rendered an initial use of a stun device ineffective. Milewski was transported to Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna by a Mantua EMS unit for observation, according to an Oakwood police report. He was released that same night without injury. Milewski's arraignment on the three misdemeanor charges was set for 9 a.m. March 11. Check back with www.the-news-leader.com for results of that hearing. Police units from the villages of Oakwood and Glenwillow, Twinsburg, Reminderville and Aurora responded during the pursuit, according to police reports. Milewski allegedly refused to stop his vehicle in Oakwood when police tried to pull him over, Oakwood Police Chief Robert Semik said, and Milewski "pushed a cruiser out of the way with his van" after a roadblock attempt at Broadway Avenue and Richmond Road. Oakwood officers then contacted Twinsburg police for assistance as Milewski proceeded on Broadway Avenue eastbound onto Ravenna Road. Gonsiewski said that at one point at Ravenna Road and Joshua Miktarian Memorial Parkway, and again on Cannon Road, Twinsburg police deployed stop sticks and blew out tires on Milewski's vehicle -- but the blown tires did not immediately stop the minivan. Speeds throughout the chase ranged between 40 mph and 60 mph, according to Gonsiewski. "And that is pretty amazing on blown-out tires," Gonsiewksi said. Comments
