The youngest contestant with the brightest smile and lots of panther pride, Tashay Reid, captured the title of Miss Black Georgia USA 2009 on Saturday, November 15 at Theatre Decatur. Reid was a judge's favorite from the interview to the talent, her personality and confidence secured her place in history.

The Clark Atlanta University sophomore is the youngest titleholder and the first to be a matriculating student at a historically black college or university. "It was truly a breathtaking moment for me," shares Reid. "I am excited to begin work to let as many young women across Georgia know about the organization." This Ohio native considers herself blessed and has hit the ground running with a photo shoot with acclaimed photographer, Sean Cokes, and a planned trip to Washington, DC for the inauguration.

Herplatform "Operation Motivation: Uplifting and Guiding Our Youth", is geared towards getting youth to do better with themselves, their community and in life. Reid walks the talk with her involvement with Up "Til Dawn, a community service and fundraising group for St. Jude's Children's Hospital, and Jumpstart, a mentoring and volunteer group, on the campus of SpelHouse (Spelman and Morehouse College). "Our youth are our future, so we must invest in them and encourage them to want and expect more out of life and themselves," she states. "It's so very important that we continue contributing to this progress, building character, and helping the community so that we grow stronger as a whole". One of the major responsibilities during her reign as queen is for Reid to accumulate at least 50 hours of community service related to her platform.

Other winners for the evening included: Jovanghn Parks, 1st runner up and Ariana Douglas, 2nd Runner Up. Reid also walked away with Best Interview Award and Miss Photogenic Award.
