Macedonia -- A 51-year-old Cleveland man did not enter a plea to two felony drug possession charges and pleaded not guilty to multiple misdemeanor charges after police said they found suspected cocaine and heroin in the man's van during a Route 8 traffic stop Nov. 24.

The man was being held in Macedonia City Jail on a $10,000 bond Dec. 1. He was scheduled for a Dec. 2 pretrial hearing in Cuyahoga Falls Municipal Court.

On Nov. 24 at about 7 p.m., police said they saw the man turn south onto Route 8 from Route 82 and drive into the northbound lanes before correcting himself. After stopping the man at Highland Road, the man said he did not have a driver's license on him and gave what police said they later determined was a false name, birth date and Social Security number.

Police said the man seemed nervous and, with his consent, they searched his van. Police said they found a drug pipe with residue on it and, inside a spray bottle, a paper towel with suspected cocaine on it, 17 wax paper bags containing a total of 5.1 grams of suspected heroin, three more drug pipes, two straws, two small screwdrivers, a piece of steel wool, a piece of an antenna and a pen. The straws, screwdrivers, antenna and pen all had suspected drug residue on them, police said.

Police said they also found some additional suspected cocaine on the van's floor. The total amount of suspected cocaine on the floor and the towel was about 2.8 grams, police said.

Police charged the man with one count each of third- and fourth-degree felony drug possession, and misdemeanor charges of possessing drug paraphernalia, obstructing official business and driving left of center.
