Northfield Center -- The Summit County Sheriff's Office is investigating a 13-year-old Nordonia Middle School student charged with allegedly sending a cell phone photo of a nude 15-year-old Nordonia High School girl to his classmates.
District Superintendent Wayne Blankenship said Oct. 27 that all students alleged to be involved in the case are attending classes, and no disciplinary action has been taken by the schools.
"As far as I know, everything happened outside of school and we haven't heard anything differently from the sheriff's office," he said.
According to Major Roger Kline, commander of the sheriff's patrol division, the eighth-grade boy was charged in Summit County Juvenile Court Oct. 10 with one count of illegal use of a minor in nudity oriented material, a fifth-degree felony. Kline said the boy spent several days in the county's juvenile detention center, then was released.
He said the boy is scheduled to appear for a Nov. 3 hearing in the Summit County Juvenile Court.
Kline said the girl allegedly sent the cell phone photo of herself voluntarily to the boy in September. The boy then allegedly sent the photo via cell phone to several other male middle school students. Kline said it is believed that the photo was taken and distributed outside of school hours.
Kline said the sheriff's office began its investigation in late September, after the mother of a middle school student reported discovering the photo on her son's cell phone.
Kline said on Oct. 27 the matter is still under investigation.
