Church hosts

wildlife course

An Ohio Division of Wildlife Hunter Education Course is being offered Aug. 14 through 16.

These classes are scheduled to take place Aug. 14 and 15 from 6 to 9 p.m. and Aug. 16 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Western Reserve Christian Church.

Men and women, families, new and experienced hunters can learn more about responsibility, conservation, firearms and ammunition, shooting, bow hunting, personal safety, survival skills and care of game.

There will be hands-on opportunities for proper care and handling of firearms, bows, related equipment, including tree stands and related accessories.

There will be opportunities to handle and inspect manufactured dummy ammunition.

The state-certified class is being instructed by Robert J. Hutson, who is a state-certified and trained instructor for Ohio Hunter Education.

These classes and tests are normally designed for children who are at least 10 years old through adults.

The class and materials are free of charge, but there is a $3 donation to cover utility and other costs incurred by the church.

There will be finger sandwiches, soup and refreshments available.

The Western Reserve Christian Church is located at 516 W. Streetsboro St., Hudson, 44236.

Class enrollment can be made online or by calling 330-650-1242 or 330-655-1312. The class enrollment is limited to 25.

Softball offered

in Garrettsville

A 12-and-under Explosion fastpitch softball team tryout is scheduled for Aug. 7 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and Aug. 9 from 3:30-6:30 p.m. at Garfield High School, 10233 State Route 88, Garrettsville, 44231.

Bedford resident Shannon Story, 30, finished 11th in the female 30-through-34 age group and 219th overall with a time of 36 minutes, 53.7 seconds at the Joseph Monastra "Refuse to Lose" 5K race July 26 in Hudson
