Bedford -- Work on a proposed retail building at Meadowbrook Market Square shopping plaza at Rockside and Northfield roads could begin soon.

Bedford Building Commissioner Phil Seyboldt said officials from Meadowbrook Development Corp. presented a proposal to the city's planning commission last month for the 27,000-square-foot, one-story building.

Seyboldt said the planning commission approved the construction of the building, but wanted Meadowbrook officials to alter a few details of the plans.

He said the brick to be used on the building did not match the other buildings at Meadowbrook, and planning commission members thought it wouldn't complement the look of the rest of the area.

"I expect they will be present at our June meeting with a modified proposal," Seyboldt said.

Officials from Meadowbrook Development did not return calls for comment.

Seyboldt said the building will be east of Wal-Mart and will have three distinct sections.

"It will be in a half-moon shape," he said. "Depending on the size of the businesses that go in, there could be as few as three or as many as 21."

Although there is no definite word on what businesses could use the space, Seyboldt said he has heard that Meadowbrook officials are working with a few possible tenants. He said he is optimistic that the space will be filled.

"I think Wal-Mart will help to attract other retail business to the area," he said.

Seyboldt said Meadowbrook officials want to have the building complete and ready for businesses to move in by fall.
