Police News: Man says he was robbed outside Lee Road apartments

Bedford -- Police are looking for the man suspected of robbing a Lee Road man outside of his apartment April 1. The man said he was approached outside of his apartment complex by a man wearing a white leather jacket. He said the suspect showed him a handgun he had in his hand and told him to "drop his stuff."

The man said he dropped his cell phone, keys and $280 in cash. He said the suspect grabbed the items and ran toward Turney Road.

Police said they searched the area and found the man's keys and cell phone, but did not find the suspect or any cash. Police are investigating.

Theft

April 2. License plate stolen: A Northfield Road woman reported someone stole the rear license plate from her Dodge Neon. The woman said her car had been parked in her closed garage. There were no signs of forced entry. Value of the plate is $54. April 3. Trailer stolen from church: A member of a Center Road church reported that a landscaping trailer was stolen from the church's parking lot. He said the trailer, which is valued at $1,100, was not secured.

Breaking and entering

March 31. Stadium broken into: A St. Peter Chanel High School employee reported that, sometime over the weekend, someone broke the lock on the fence surrounding the school's stadium and gained entry. The employee said nothing appeared to be missing, but some chairs had been thrown around inside the press box. Police are investigating.

Fraud

April 5. Fraudulent charges on stolen credit card: A Rockside Road woman reported that one of her credit cards is missing and that there is a $55 charge at a gas station that the woman did not make. The woman said the last time she used her card was at a different gas station March 27. She said she thinks the card was either lost or stolen at that time.

Robbery

March 28. Man pulls gun on driver at stoplight: A man told police three men in a white Pontiac Grand Am pointed a gun at him near Northfield Road March 28, shortly before 1 p.m. The man told police he stopped at a traffic light and the car pulled up next to him with the three men inside. One of the men got out of the car and walked toward his car, the driver told police, so he drove away.

But, the car caught up to him and one of the passengers reached under the front seat and came up with a gun, which was pointed at him.

The man said he drove away and turned down a side street as the suspect's car kept driving on Northfield Road.

The man was not able to get a good description of the vehicle or the suspects, except to say the car had no front license plate.

Theft

March 28. Construction equipment taken: An employee of a Valley View construction company told police that two steel buckets that fit on the front of an excavator were taken between March 28 and 31 while equipment was parked at a site on Granger Road.

The employee said the buckets are worth about $1,500 each.

April 2. Man tried to hide vodka: An employee of a Warrensville Center Road beverage store told police a man tried to conceal and walk out of the store with a $7.65 bottle of vodka.

The employee told police he tried to stop the man, who left the vodka and ran.

He was gone when police arrived.

Damaging

April 3. Child misses pole, hits car: A man told police he was driving on Broadway Avenue shortly before 6:30 p.m. when a rock hit his car, causing a dent. The man called police, who upon investigating discovered a juvenile threw a rock at a telephone pole, missed and struck the car.

The man told police he would talk with the girl's parents.

The report did not list a damage total for the dent.
