Akron -- A former St. Peter Chanel High School teacher charged with unlawful sexual conduct with a minor pleaded guilty March 14 to 11 felony counts. Stephen M. Majercik, 59, of Spinnaker Run in Reminderville, pleaded guilty to unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, a third-degree felony; six counts of illegal use of a minor in nude material, second-degree felonies; three counts of pandering sexual material involving a minor, second-degree felonies; and sexual battery, a third-degree felony, according to Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh. Majercik, who will be sentenced by Summit County Court of Common Pleas Judge Patricia Cosgrove April 22, could not be reached for comment. "He's owning up to his responsibilities, and he deeply regrets the trauma he has caused in many people's lives," said Majercik's attorney, Mark Gardner. Majercik, who will be classified as a sex offender, turned himself in to police Jan. 8. Chanel President Roger Abood said the school contacted Reminderville police that day and conducted a one-day investigation after learning "suspicious information" during a conversation with a student. According to court records, Majercik was indicted Feb. 22. According to the indictment, Majercik was accused of engaging in sexual conduct with at least one minor between December and January. According to prosecutors, after Majercik's arrest, Reminderville police executed several search warrants on his home, seizing a computer and allegedly discovering images of children in various stages of nudity. Some of the images depicted sexual acts, prosecutors said. It was not known if the victims were students of Majercik, who was the chair of the technology department at Chanel, where he taught for six years. Gardner said his client was fired by the school. -- From staff reports Comments
