Bedford students
Three students in the Bedford Schools took top honors at the regional level of the 2007 Ohio Martin Luther King Jr. statewide oratorical contest. The competition, held on Jan. 15, 2007 at Mt. Zion Church of Oakwood, focused on the theme: "Carrying the torch, dedicating my life to the dream." Glendale Primary School kindergartner Amira Al Amin won first place in her grade level for her speech. She received a $300 savings bond and the opportunity to compete in the state competition to be held at the King Arts Complex in Columbus on April 20. Justin Tinker, a first-grader from Central Primary School, placed third in his grade level division and will also compete in Columbus. He received a $50 savings bond. Bedford High School senior Gelise Littlejohn took third place among high school students and received a $50 savings bond. She, too, will compete in Columbus. Other Bedford Schools students who participated in this year's competition were: Avandre Sayles, grade one, and Nina Ali, kindergarten, Central Primary School; Zachary Holtz, grade one, and Alec Grant, grade two, Glendale Primary School; Julio Stevens, grade five, Carylwood Intermediate School; and Brianne Worthy, grade six, Aurora Upper Intermediate School.
